Lions Angels Open Season with Fight Despite Tough Start at Life Pacific
San Dimas, CA — October 29, 2025
The Bethesda University Women's Basketball team opened their 2025–26 season on the road against Life Pacific University, showing determination and energy despite falling 71–26 in their first contest.
The Lions faced a tough start, going scoreless in the first quarter but finding rhythm as the game progressed. Junior guard Shyann Morreo led all scorers for Bethesda with 16 points and 6 rebounds, showing confidence and leadership throughout the matchup. Mary Gonzales contributed 5 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists, orchestrating the offense and keeping the team composed under pressure.
Despite the scoreline, Bethesda's defensive hustle and effort on the glass were bright spots. The team showed resilience by improving their ball movement in the second half, cutting down turnovers and finding higher-quality shots.
Bethesda looks ahead to their next challenge with optimism. The Lions showed grit, effort, and flashes of potential that will serve as a foundation for growth throughout the season. "We know where we need to get better — shot efficiency, rebounding, and tempo control," said Coach Newman after the game. "But the heart and intensity of our group were unquestionable tonight."
The Lions return to action next week, aiming to build on the lessons learned in San Dimas and continue developing their new season identity.
