ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Flames (11-9), with teamwork and a lot of effort, pulled the win against West Coast Baptist Saturday night.
The BU led the WCB by up to fifteen points, but the Eagles managed to tie the game in the last few seconds, forcing the Flames to dig deep in order to squeak out a victory. Great team effort and outstanding defense by BU guards, Alex Reynolds, Ray Rigby and Marcus Eggum, allowed the Flames to secure the game by 2 PTS. The leaders for the Flames were – Buddha Boyd with 27 PTS and 9 REB, Gabriel Adersteg with 15 PTS and 5 REB, and Khalfani Williams with a double-double, 13 PTS and 12 REB.
Head Coach Leo Balayon is focused on securing the first ever winning season for the men's basketball program, and it has been working so far. The Flames have been ranked 13th in the NCCAA and 2nd in the PCAC conference. "At this point, I feel that every single member of this team is bought in and wants nothing more than to produce the most successful season in the history of the men's basketball program. This is the first time we have ever been ranked in the nation, in fact, this is the first time we have ever been above .500" said Balayon. BU Flames will be joining the PCAC Conference Championship Tournament hosted by West Coast Baptist on Feb 16-18. "The ultimate goal for us is to win a championship. It will definitely not be easy because we have good teams in the conference. We understand that we have to do it one game at a time. The bottom line is that we have to appreciate the opportunity we have been given to play college basketball and not take it for granted" said Balayon.
Thursday, Feb. 9 @7PM, the Flames return to Lancaster, CA to play WCB for their second regular season conference match up.
